Welcoming Our New Chair: Robin Morgan-Chu Joins Camden Giving

Robin Morgan-Chu, Camden Giving’s new Chair, takes over leadership of the charity for the next four years.

We are excited to start the new year with some important news! Camden Giving is pleased to announce the appointment of Robin Morgan-Chu as the new Chair of the charity. Robin, Director of Partnerships and Policy at SSE (the School for Social Entrepreneurs), will take over leadership for the next four years. His focus will be on furthering participatory grant-making and ensuring that Camden residents remain at the heart of decisions that impact their communities.

A New Chapter for Camden Giving

This leadership transition follows the departure of Simon Pitkeathley, who is stepping down after two successful terms as Chair. Since Camden Giving’s founding in 2016, Simon has been a driving force behind the charity’s growth. Under his guidance, Camden Giving has empowered local residents to decide how grants are allocated, forming strong partnerships with organisations like Camden Council, Google, Moonbug Productions, and others.

As we express our gratitude for Simon’s leadership, we’re also excited to move forward under Robin’s direction.

Robin’s Vision for Camden Giving

Robin has a strong background in community engagement and social enterprise. He co-founded CoachBright, an organisation focused on mentoring disadvantaged young people, where he directly worked with underserved communities. This hands-on experience in supporting and empowering individuals aligns perfectly with Camden Giving’s mission to ensure local voices are central in decision-making processes.

A Word from Natasha Friend, Director of Camden Giving

Natasha Friend, Director of Camden Giving, shared her thoughts on Simon’s legacy and Robin’s appointment:

“Simon may not be our Chair anymore, but I’m confident that we’ll be quoting his excellent advice for many years to come. Simon has helped to make us a light-of-foot organisation that’s here to help businesses be a force for good in Camden. The entire team are grateful for the thousands of hours he’s put into supporting our work on the good days and the less good days.”

On Morgan-Chu's appointment, Natasha added:

“Driven by his own lived experience, Robin set up CoachBright where I first saw him in action, coaching and mentoring disadvantaged young people, including some of our own grantmakers and beneficiaries. Camden has huge disparity and inequalities, and Robin’s social enterprise experience will be invaluable in influencing central and local government funding decisions. We look forward to working together.”

Strengthening Participatory Grant-Making

As Camden Giving’s new Chair, Robin is focused on strengthening participatory grant-making, ensuring that Camden residents continue to play a central role in shaping how funding is distributed. His vision is not just for Camden but to extend the impact of participatory grant-making across London and beyond.

Robin says,

“Simon is well-known as a London and Camden legend and has been personally a valuable mentor and shown how Camden connects to the local community. Big shoes to fill but I’m delighted to take over from an amazing person. We have a strong group of trustees, staff and grantees with a huge diversity of talent and experience that will enable Camden Giving to have a huge impact. With funding often now ending up outside London, we need to continue to focus on ensuring we address, alongside others, the huge inequalities that Camden faces and give a voice to local communities.”
